good to see council can at long last agree on something, the revulsion the people feel over the lights saga, their role in it, and the one person that has caused it. FOR WHAT PURPOSE?

He has been stated by the council to have made the auditors complaints costing over 20,000 pounds, high time they declared him a vexatious complainant.

Apparently Councillor Claire Eggerton is going around the shops telling people that the Lights are coming down as they are unsafe! Is she the spokesperson for Barrington Trumpers’ supporters on the Town Council? Let us see the results of the vote on ‘the resolution’ put before councillors last night and then we can make our own judgement as to who supports him

It seems ‘Scrooge’ is alive and well and living in Kington.

It would appear that not only Kington Town Council are scared of Barrington Trumpers’ pen and camera – but also Herefordshire Concil (including Amey)and the electricity companies. I see that the lights are not switched on today and Amey workmen have been walking the Town with their cameras.

What’s the reason that the lights have to be brought down?
A complaint by itself surely isn’t reason enough for action to be ordered by Herefordshire Council (is that who “Amey” work for?) to take down the lights. There’s not enough information here for me to understand what is actually happening and why… anyone know more? I don’t see the reason to be ‘very angry’ as I’m being prompted to be without understanding the facts here.

I see that a certain “member of the public” has complained about the lights and is trying to have them taken down. Why is he doing this? What’s his motivation? Does Councillor Trumper support her husband’s actions??

I hear that the electricity company have also been asking questions about the power supply for the lights. Why have they been involved and who asked them to be?

The council, well most members, has finally (three months late!!) done the right thing by disassociating itself from the tirade against the Chamber and Mr Bounds. But, obviously, the member of the public is not happy with that and still seeks to influence matters.

Unfortunately, the council has not gone far enough. It really is time that the council completely disassociated itself from this man and stopped him from having ANY influence over the way in which the council conducts its business. Why don’t they pass a motion censuring him and banning him from future council meetings? Good councillors have been suspended for less than this man is doing!!

Those councillors who support him should now seriously consider their position. Either they should publicly be seen to disassociate themselves from the actions of this man or they should step down as they surely CANNOT represent the views of the public if they give any crumb of comfort to someone who is intent on undermining the town and its businesses!!

I also hear that the council is going to be subject to a full review by Herefordshire Council. Let’s hope that will sort out some of the mess and that the council, at least those who DESERVE to serve, can get back to dealing with the mundane tasks that parish councils should deal with and get out of the limelight which it finds itself in for all the wrong reasons.

Can’t wait to see what the Mid Wales Journal has to say about all of this!!
Councillor James is right – the public should be VERY ANGRY about this.

From: Kington Town Council Minutes of the Meeting held on Monday 7th September 2009:-
“Members of the public were invited to address the Council: a member of the public asked a number of questions relating to the provision of Christmas lights.” (See earlier posting for details: http://kingtonblackboard.org/2009/09/kington-christmas-lights-2/comment-page-2/#comment-208 )

    .

    7/12/09 Agenda, Item 7:

To consider and decide on the following resolution:-

“The Council wishes to disassociate itself from the written and verbal statement made by a member of the public to the Council meeting on 7th September 2009 that questioned the integrity of the Chamber and Cllr Bounds’ role in the provision of the Christmas lights. It wishes to record its appreciation of their contribution in past years and is committed to working with the Kington Chamber of Trade to secure the provision of lights in future years.”

The Resolution was voted for by an overwhelming majority. Cllr Mrs Trumper and Newman and Handley declared an ‘Interest’ so were not present, and Cllr Turner abstained. (As Cllr Bounds was named he obviously declared an ‘Interest’ and left the chamber.)

THE LIGHTS MUST BE TURNED OFF. THEY MUST BE TAKEN DOWN !
p.s. Christmas is cancelled in Kington.

At the Town Council Meeting on Monday 7th Dec 2009 the bombshell was dropped by the Kington Ward Member Cllr James:

Following a complaint from Mr Trumper, Amey informed the Chamber of Trade this morning that the Christmas lights must be turned off immediately and taken down within two days!

Cllr James thought the public would be very angry when they hear about it.

    So what do we think ! ! ! ! ! ? ? ? ? ?

Excellent job, wonderful community spirit when erecting lights.

I hope councillors remember Rita’s contribution when considering Civic Awards next year.

Thanks to Barrington for giving the Town a common cause. But that’s all.

The reason we have Christmas Lights

Town Councils indecision on Christmas Lights force Kington Chamber of Trade to go it alone

Despite the complete mishandling by Kington Town Council, of last year’s grant for Christmas Lights (Grant applied for in November 2008 – cheque received October 2009) and their inability to get enough members to vote to disassociate themselves from the attack on the Chamber and its member (and Town Councillor) Tom Bounds by Mr Barrington Trumper at the September Council meeting, Kington will have its Christmas Lights.
At a Chamber meeting last night (23rd Nov) it was recognised that if left to the Council, there would be no Lights. Kington Town Council were first advised in May by the Chamber, that it would be having nothing to with the Lights and it was only at their last meeting in November, that a decision was made to offer a contract to an outside organisation to put up the lights. Having already decided not to enter into any financial arrangements with the Council, the Chamber decided that for this year, members and supporters would put up the Lights without input from the Council.
A spokesperson for the Chamber said ‘Rita Langford’s charity shop recently raised over £1000 for the Chamber and is being used both for the Christmas In Kington Day on December 5th and individual Christmas Trees on shops in the Town. We have a donation of £500 from Talk About Local (the organisation who inspired kingtonblackboard.org ), an offer of a donation from a KLEEN benefit concert on December 11th at the Burton Hotel, a local independent supermarket and many individuals wanting to contribute. With this support from the community, we will make every effort to have the lights up for December 5th.’
Weather and logistics permitting, volunteers will be out this Sunday erecting the Lights. Collection points for donations to the Lights will be in shops and pubs over the next few days.
Kington Chamber of Trade would like to thank those Councillors who have been supportive of the organisation over the past twelve months.
