Mr Fox’s Lucky Day

Boxing Day in Kington

There were snorting horses, their breath billowing in the air like lost clouds. There was a mixture of jovial men and women some resplendent in their pinks and some not, greeting friends and neighbours as their mounts pranced about impatient for the off. Fortifying stirrup cups were being downed enthusiastically.

This was The Radnor’s Hunt Boxing Day Meet. There should have been a rousing horn blast and they’d be thundering off streaming out into the snowy landscape, but unfortunately, the event was called off because of icy conditions. Still, it was a fun social event for everyone who participated.

Many thanks to John Richardson of The Burton Hotel who threw open the doors at the crack of dawn this morning to prepare and serve the pre-hunt refreshments for the mounted followers.
